European Union standards for Braille on pharmaceutical packaging have been the subject of much debate during recent months. Benson Group, via its specialist team at Medica, keep this issue in sharp focus by retaining a place on the Braille Medicines Forum.
Legislation regarding Braille for pharmaceutical products dictates that from October 2008 all new packaging designs will have to carry product name and dosage details for the visually impaired. From 2010 this Braille requirement will be extended to all pharmaceutical products.
Medica Packaging's experience in the incorporation of Braille information extends back over twelve years, and in-house expertise includes the ability to originate such work using the Marburg Medium spacing standard, as well as "proof reading" capabilities.
As part of the Group's continual investment policy, the very latest Braille reproduction equipment is shortly coming on stream at Medica Packaging in the shape of a new Bobst Alpina 110 A2 gluing line with AccuBraille. This device will take over from the more traditional cutting and creasing forme system of Braille production. The UK's first AccuBraille system will speed up make-ready, provide for significantly tighter control over the production of Braille, and remove some of the potential vagaries of the more typical production methods.
